Vonage Subscriber Recruitment Stalls
By PETER SVENSSON, AP Technology Writer

Thu Aug 9, 6:53 AM

NEW YORK - Internet telephone company Vonage Holdings Corp. on Thursday reported a much reduced loss for the second quarter as it scaled back marketing, but it also saw a drastic drop in new subscribers.

The drop in recruitment means that Vonage is no longer the country's largest provider of Internet-based telephone service, a field it pioneered. Cable company Comcast Corp. reported 3 million digital phone subscribers at the end of the second quarter, surpassing Vonage's 2.45 million, an increase of just 57,000 lines from the first quarter. Hmm..... Eek

This is expected and looks like it will get worse ........
The tripple play from Teclo/Cable companies have made it expensive for subscribers to use ITSPs like Vonage. Moreover, ITSPs haven't done much to distinguish the service or user expereince. There is only so much that 24.99 and catchy commercials can do. Unless they come up something Idea that can get get the ordinary user excited about which becomes indispensable feature/habit, you should keep your hopes low.

Goodluck with your stock Exclamation

Wow... only 2,000 net new customers added in Q2'08. That's beyond terrible.
