I'm getting Error Code 204. I unplugged both the router/modem and the phone adapter. I'm still getting the same message. What is the next step?
1. NJ
2. Verizon DSL
3. 3 Mbps Download 768K Upload
4. Westell 327W
5. V-Portal Phone Adapter
6. Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC |

Error Code 204 means that the phone lines are not registering with the Vonage service.
This could be due to a connectivity issue with the internet, so a quick question?
Does your PC connect to the internet in this configuration (i.e. through the Vonage adapter) or are you needing to connect your PC directly to the DSL Modem to connect to the internet.
If you can connect to the internet through the Vonage adapter, I would call Vonage Technical support to figure out if you are provisioned. |

I connect wirelessly and one computer connects using the Ethernet cable. The Ethernet cable is plugged into the wireless router and then the computer. |

I then suspect the firewall on the Westell is blocking the needed ports to setup your Vonage service.
Try opening up portson the Westell, as follows:
UDP 10050 - 10150
UDP 5060 |

Well, I found out that Verizon decided to shut off our Internet. I don't know why I got this error, with the Internet icon, and then the Internet went out. We were talking about switching to Comcast anyway. I ordered Comcast and we will be getting Internet from them soon.
Goodbye Verizon! (3 Mbps)
Hello Comcast! (16 Mbps)
Thanks for all the replies. |

I guess Verizon wasn't reluctant to letting you go. True colors come out once you decide to leave them. You'll notice a big difference when trying to download something when going from 3Mbps to 16. |

pvoip, I don't know if you set up what is called dry loop which is using dsl Internet without a telephone number. If you didn't then that explains why you lost Internet. Good luck with comcast they love to block ports from Vonage, but we can open new ports!! hehehehe |

I only this I heard about ports being blocked due to reports of Spam being the culprit. Nothing being block for the 2 1/2 years I had them. They also try to make their CDV look better than Vonage by packet prioritizing. |

I did not set up dry loop service with Verizon, but we did make it clear that we want to keep the DSL WITHOUT phone service. I guess they didn't set up the dry loop. They didn't even tell us the price was going to go up to $52.99. We got a letter yesterday asking us what they could do to get us back as a customer. I don't think there is much they can do for me, especially since I have such a great deal with Comcast now. I'm not even going to call them. We don't have anything from Verizon now. We have DirecTV, Vonage, and Comcast.
What do I need to do if Comcast blocks a port? I don't understand how that works. |

You don't need to worry about Comcast blocking ports; any blocked ports are not used by Vonage or VoIP in general. And, since Comcast directly connects to Vonage now, your traffic will go stright from Comcast to Vonage (and vice versa) without going over the Internet. |
